On this Third Sunday of Advent, we Rejoice and continue our Advent theme of Hope. Advent is a time to prepare ourselves for Christ's return in glory. Through Hope we desire eternal life in Heaven. Our virtue of Hope gives us the strength and the courage to carry the Light of Christ into the darkness of our world. We Hope it brightens the lives of others. Next week’s Readings for the Fourth Sunday of Advent encourage us to have Faith in God’s promises. He is the God of Hope. When you read them, pray for an increase in the virtue of Hope. In the First Reading from Samuel, King David wants to build a temple to honor God. But God tells Nathan the Prophet that instead of David building a Temple the Lord will build a family dynasty, a kingdom that will last forever. That Hope was realized with the Incarnation of Jesus as the Son of David. St. Paul explains that the Gospel reveals the mystery that had been hidden for many ages. Now all people may believe, obey, and give glory through Jesus Christ forever. This passage is a hymn of praise giving glory to God. When we praise and give glory to God, we express our Hope and obedience to the Lord. In Luke’s Gospel the Angel Gabriel tells Mary that God has chosen her to be the mother of His Son. Mary is first afraid, yet shows her unquestioning faith when she simply says, “May it be done to me according to your word.” Mary’s “Yes” gives us great Hope in the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus did come, but not everyone believes in Him. As Christians, our Hope is that all peoples will accept Jesus as their Savior. Now you know!
