Deacon's Corner: What do we gain from performing the five First Saturdays devotion?

This devotion is a direct result of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s teaching at Fatima. She said to St. Lucia, “To save souls God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.” To this devotion the Blessed Mother gave a promise through St. Lucia: “I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the 15 mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.” So what must we do? The devotion involves five consecutive first Saturdays, which can be done any time of the year. Specifically, one needs to receive the Sacrament of Penance during the 8 days before the first Saturday then attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on the first Saturday. Also, on the first Saturday of the month one must recite five decades of the Rosary and spend 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. All is done with the intention of making reparation for the offenses against Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart. We need to complete these actions for each of five consecutive months without interruption, otherwise we must recommence from the beginning. Did we hear what she promised? The graces necessary for our salvation, our eternal life with Her Son! It is good to please our Blessed Mother since the reward is so great! Now you know!
